Democracy Re-defined!!!

Abraham Lincoln was a great leader and he tried to solve some pressing problems of his time. Mahatma Gandhi was a great leader and he too tried to solve some challenging problems of his time. Nelson Mandela is another great leader who solved some social and political issues. Likewise there are many good leaders who focused on solution more than the problems. These leaders succeeded in doing what they promised to do.

Abraham Lincoln made us understand what is real democracy. He defined "democracy is of the people, by the people and for the people." By this he meant the ordinary people who represent the masses with good spirits and intentions leading them to enjoy the abundance and goodness of this world.

The notion of democracy is totally misunderstood today. Considering today's economic and world situation all over, the definition I have coined suits the time well. I perceive democracy as this: "Today Democracy is of the Politicians, By the Politicians and For the Politicians Alone." The politicians don't represent the ordinary people today anymore rather they are the collective face of the Big organizations like Banks, Financial Institutes and Cartels. They are no longer the servants of the people though the different countries' constitution vehemently states so.

To solve today's economic crisis, we must understand the true meaning of democracy as explained by Abraham Lincoln. Democracy has been hijacked to favor the few who greedily desire to have dominion over others as it used to be during Kings and Queens era.

We who work in large organizations and spend our precious time to increase profits for them are merely the modern slaves of industrial and information age. Recent protests all over the world is a sign of discontent and we can't expect a change that we ordinary people hope to see. If there is a deal, it will be a show-off superficially to calm down the disturbed emotion. It will be like applying a cream to get rid of a scar on the skin.

The 21st century definition of democracy should be, "Democracy is of the common people, by the common people and for the common people" and by common people I mean the citizens because we run the countries by paying taxes. The leader shouldn't be a politician because he/she can't be a servant of the people. Leaders should emerge from the masses and not from the political parties.
